The committee has decided on the agenda and order of speakers for The Pitblado Lectures 2011. Details are posted on the website www.pitbladolectures.ca.
On Friday, November 25 2011, Professor Janis Sarra from UBC speaks on Introductory Survey of the Changing Themes and Philosophies in Bankruptcy & Insolvency in Canada. That’s followed by Business Restructuring Basics by locals JJ Burnell and Bruce Taylor and Acquiring Assets from Insolvent Businesses with locals Don Douglas and Blair Filyk.
After lunch, Bob Lkotz presents The Legal Ethics of Creditor Proofing and Highlights of Recent personal bankruptcy decisions. David Kroft will speak on Using the Insolvency Regime to Circumvent Contracts. Jeff Lee follows with Agricultural Insolvency: Restructuring Challenges Unique to the Farm, Ranch & Agribusiness Sectors.
The day wraps up with a panel discussion led by Master Errick Harrison on “Who bought the farm?”. David Jackson and John Stewart make up the rest of the panel.
On Saturday, Frank Bennett will present The Creditor’s Toolbox. He’s followed by Rick Schwartz – “I’m on the hook for what?! Advising Directors of Insolvent and Restructuring Corporations”.
The program will end with a panel discussion titled “What about me? What other stakeholders need to know to protect their rights in an insolvency”. The panel (Donna Collins, Catherine Howden and David Johnston) will be led by Justice Robert Dewar.
